Molecular Pathology

Today, the processing of tissue samples by molecular pathology is an integral part of complex tumor diagnostics in order to determine the optimal therapy for our tumor patients. Approximately 50-60 % of tumor tissue samples taken in hospitals should be subjected to molecular analysis in order to determine the genetic alterations relevant for therapy. The determination of genetic alterations is absolutely necessary in order to determine the correct form of treatment for the individual tumour, to prevent unwanted side effects and to prepare the basis of modern precision medicine.

The appropriate method today is called Next Generation Sequencing. This is carried out at the Institute of Pathology of Virchow Laboratories under quality control. The internationally recognized criteria and ring test controls are fulfilled.
